Welcome to the U.S.S. Poseidon!

The year is 2393. Six years after the death of Ambassador Spock, the Alpha Quadrant is still reeling from the effects of the Hobus Supernova which destroyed Romulus and Remus. With Empires struggling to survive and minor powers vying for supremacy, it is an interesting time for the United Federation of Planets. In the chaos, piracy has been on the rise, with typically peaceful trade routes to distant Federation frontier worlds now coming on periodic attack by roving bands of marauders. The U.S.S. Poseidon, a Miranda-class Academy training starship, is the beginning of Starfleet's response to this problem. Returned to service from mothball and refitted for modern service, she is to act as Starfleet's arm and shield in places left unprotected, to train the next generation of recruits to serve the needs of the Federation. These are the adventures of the Poseidon, and she needs you as her crew.

====================

The crew and commanding officer of the U.S.S. Poseidon (NCC-42635) welcome you to our homepage! The objective of our sim is to provide an avenue for fans of Star Trek sims to explore one of the less detailed areas of traditional Star Trek Role Playing, that of convoy escort and anti-piracy operations. Missions will inevitably vary depending on what comes down from Pegasus Fleet, but the primary goal and objective of the Poseidon is to represent a solid presence as Starfleets commitment to peace and security with its member-worlds and their peoples, and act as deterrent to the enemies of those ideals.

Positions on the U.S.S. Poseidon are generally open to all applications. We welcome all aspects and avenues of experience, and are eager to have you join us on our adventures. Since the U.S.S. Poseidon is essentially an active-duty training vessel - despite its mission perimeters - missions will generally include objectives that encourage character growth and exploration in order to flesh out players perspectives and worlds. Each post adds to the creation and legacy of the Poseidon, and each player is more than welcomed to use the Poseidon to hopefully reach for better, more prestigious ships and positions within Pegasus Fleet!

If this unique aspect of Star Trek RPG interests you, feel free to apply to join today!

Hello crew!

Pegasus Fleet Admiralty and I are working hard to provide our users with the best experience possible. To that end, during this holiday downtime it has been decided that it would be a perfect time to transfer the Poseidon from microbregames webhost to the primary webhost of Pegasus Fleet, ensuring quality and continuity for our game. As we work out the little kinks in the process, I would ask a temporary suspension of all activities in the interim. Take this time to be with your family and, if you wish, be as active as you desire on the discord. We have two channels for you to play out any potential JP, #holodeck-ic and #the-crew-lounge-ic if you so desire that avenue of writing.

I thank you all for your patience and eagerly await the finalization of this transition. If by the time January hits nothing has transpired I will conduct an appropriate review on whether or not I should suspend this hold on activities.

Get better from sickness and get back to health, enjoy the Holidays, and I'll see you sometime in January!

Best Holiday Wishes,
Franklin Johnson

» The State of the Sim: Holiday Edition

Posted on Sunday December 22nd, 2019 @ 6:20pm by Commander Franklin Johnson in General News

Hey Crew,

I'll keep this brief as Number One will be handing out their excellent news bits sometime within the week, but the short of it is that we've had a considerably noticeable sick season with the crew - myself included and the Command Staff, along with several crew members. Life happens, and as I personally know and can attest, it does get in the way of what we want to do. As your Commanding Officer, I assure you the sim isn't going anywhere while we all recover from our seasonal flu's and sickness, your health is my top concern as well as your well being, so it makes sense this Sim operates the same way I do; patience, second and third chances, and a relaxed atmosphere. Right now let's all concentrate on getting better, those of us who are under, and we wish to all thank those of us who are not for their patience during this time.

On that topic, we all know it's the Holiday Season. In America, we're celebrating Christmas soon and New Years, which I'm sure is an equally celebrated dual holiday elsewhere. Let's all take this time to spend time with our family, tend to our real life business, and only concentrate on this sim should you have the time. As stated before, my top concern is your well being, not the number of posts you provide this sim - though I admit you guys have done fantastic so far and I'd be remiss to say I wasn't floored and appreciative!

Thank you all for being a part of this family. Let's all send our well wishes to those under sickness, send our best wishes to those of us who are still busy with work this Holiday Season, and send our best regards for all of us during our Holiday downtime. Spend time with family and concentrate on staying healthy. You are all a fantastic crew and I couldn't be blessed with such wonderful folks to spend the Year of 2020 with.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, crew. You made 2019 a wonderful time to be alive, and I can't wait to see what we achieve in 2020!

Wishing you better health than I,
Franklin Johnson

» Sim Announcement (12-3-2019)

Posted on Wednesday December 4th, 2019 @ 3:36am by Commander Franklin Johnson in Sim Announcement

Dear Crew,

As those of you on Discord are aware, we've had a change of status to both our Second Officer and First Officer positions. I'd like to restate what I said in the Discord announcement channel. That in every situation, we as the Command Staff are here to help - even with our own. We'll switch things around, manage things differently, arrange them appropriately, all to simply give you the time you need to do the things you need and maintain you here. Phoebe Graydon is experiencing some rough patches and limited time to due to their work, and we worked with them on the best possible avenue to not only retain them on the crew, but also make it easier due to those time constraints. We will work with any of you in the same capacity, so please feel free to always address such concerns with us.

Additionally, as also stated in the announcement, please give a warm welcome to their new promotion as Executive Officer, our previous Second Officer Kanaka Shakura. They have worked tirelessly for this sim and deserve this promotion and I am more than happy to grant it. They have tirelessly worked on the proper canonical plotline summaries, kept track of crew personal plots, and even taken it on themselves to address critical issues pertaining to the crew. I am extremely happy to have them as my new Executive Officer.

The wiki, website, and our website have all been updated to reflect these changes. Keep up the good work crew, and remember that we're always here to support you!

With thanks,
Franklin Johnson
Commanding Officer

» The Commanders Word

Posted on Sunday December 1st, 2019 @ 4:15am by Commander Franklin Johnson in Out of Character

Hey crew,

I think since Number Two has taken over the proper approach to what a news item should look like (awesome job Kanaka!), I'll take the background approach and give out my little tidbits under the guise of "The Commanders Word". I'll start it off proper with a short and sweet one.

First off, awesome job to everyone who participated in Departure: Part's One and Two, and especially Recovery (I'm looking at you Karn Karn!). All of you, each and every one of you, breathe the life necessary into the story of this ship to make it not only real, but vibrant and warranting our attention and dedication. You are the crew that moves this ship, without you the Poseidon would be nothing. I want to thank you all, humbly, from the bottom of my heart for making this sim as popular, as lively, as real, as fun as it is. Thank you all!

Secondly, let's all give a warm round of applause to Kanaka themself! Kanaka has, without a doubt, been the central driving force for the mechanisms of this machine. The players give the mechanism purpose, but it is Kanaka that ensures the gears are oiled and the mechanism operates fully. I have been flabbergasted at how much they have taken on so easily and so well, and I am in continued awe at how they're keeping things in order. Thank you, Number Two, you truly are one of the most irreplaceable assets to this ship, and a good friend.

Thirdly, let's give a round of applause to Sydney! During my escapes at Thanksgiving I missed out on a critical component of how they're keeping track of things. They have a literal boxed list of detail keeping track of every room for every person. That is outstanding dedication to story and ship continuity, well done. Please remember to all new crew, approach Sydney for room designation when prompted or available.

Lastly, I've handed out some relevant awards this month to mark what I've detailed. We haven't had much time for anything else due to the holidays, so I apologize. We'll try to do better next month but no promises, another Holiday is around the corner! Keep doing well and I will do my best to hand out those awards. You deserve the recognition.

Crew, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you, all of you. From Number One and Number Two, Phoebe and Kanaka, to Sydney Allen our Quartermaster, thank you to *all* of you. You make my story come to life. I am proud you have taken on this story, made it come to life, and given it a soul. You bring me to tears sometimes because of how well you make this sim come to life. So thank you, from the bottom of heart, thank you all - new to old, thank you.

Yours truly,
CMNDR Franklin S. Johnson

» General Sim Update [30-11-19]

Posted on Saturday November 30th, 2019 @ 11:36pm by Lieutenant Commander Kanaka Shakura in General News

Hello Everyone,

As the festive season is just on the horizon, the Command Staff and I felt it would be a good idea for us to touch base to look at the overall state of things and consider our moves going forward in the immediate future.

== Warm Welcomes to Fresh Faces ==

Before we get onto that, allow me the honour to introduce some of our newest crew-members! We've had an astonishing four new faces join us this month, making us the largest sim in Task Force 11 of Pegasus Fleet!

First, we have Lieutenant T'Pri, our new Chief Intelligence Officer. T'Pri brings a wealth of interesting ideas and experience to the table, and I can't wait to see what machinations and intrigue they have in store for us.

Next we have Ensign Aislin Finnegan, who joins us as Assistant Chief Science Officer. Joining us all the way from the southern hemisphere, Aislin has already begun making friends on board and I'm confident to say will likely create a nice dynamic with her fellow officers, and I'm glad she's here to join us.

Then there's Ensign Jack Davids, who comes aboard as an Operations Officer. Jack has over a years experience in other Star Trek roleplays, but this is his first time simming with us here in Pegasus Fleet and on the Nova system. So, make sure to give him a warm welcome and a helping hand to learn the ropes should he need it!

Last but certainly not least we have Staff Sergeant Maximilian Pfaffenheim, who brings our Marine Detachment to life as our First Sergeant. I personally have the pleasure of knowing Maximilian from other roleplaying ventures, and he's a strong writer and a class personality. A perfect fit for our motley crew! While no slouch in roleplay, he is also new to our Nova system, so make sure to give him a helping hand too if he needs it.

A warm welcome to all - each new player makes us an even more diverse and vibrant crew, and the Command Staff is immensely privileged to sim with each and every one of you.

== State of the Sim ==

So, with Departure: Below Decks and Recovery squared away - big well done again to everyone who took part in their writing - the sim is now firmly on course to flesh out the remainder of the Shakedown Cruise mission. In light of the events of both Departure's and Recovery there's still the matter of finalising the investigation in Lt. Pavan's death and determining whether it continues or not, which is to be reported on in The Second Senior Officers' Meeting, which is still a work-in-progress.

Alongside this, time certainly doesn't stand still while all these events are going on. Oh no; there's a lot more going on that deserves to be captured and written. So, for the purposes of assisting you all in continuing to write excellent and intriguing Joint Posts and to keep the story rolling as we go forward, here's the Command Staff's guide/outline for the Shakedown Cruise Mission in terms of critical events and timescale.

-- Day 000 (August 18th 2393 / Stardate 70627.4) --

Original Date of Departure, abandoned following the Fighter Incident that resulted in the death of Lieutenant Pavan (See: Departure: The Bridge, Departure: Below Decks and Recovery)

Suggestions for events on this day: Reacting to the incident, reflecting on how your character and their department responded to the incident.

-- Day 001 --

The Poseidon is re-docked at Starbase 99 following the events of the previous day. Everyone is still in shock. Meanwhile, a couple of new faces (see above) join the crew, as well as a face from the Poseidon's past who has somehow come back from the dead... (See: A Second Chance)

Suggestions for events on this day: Meeting and introducing the new crew members, finalising the investigation, general character work.

-- Day 002 --

Nothing particular of note happens this day.

Use this as a day to use as you see fit and come up with interesting character interactions / points of inquiry. If you want to introduce a new plot element either for the ongoing plot or your own character, please consult me (LCdr. Shakura) first.

-- Day 003 --

Commander Franklin Johnson convenes the Senior Officers' for another Meeting in order to address the ships' morale and to receive the final report into the Fighter Incident. From there the Poseidon prepares to set off again (See: The Second Senior Officers' Meeting [WIP]).

Suggestions for events on this day: Rebuilding ship morale, getting ready for Departure.

-- Day 004 --

The Poseidon attempts once more to depart and begin it's first mission.

++ Please Note: This day will likely be left until The Second Senior Officers' Meeting is concluded and another Joint Post for Departure begins, but by all means still set JPs on this day, just try not to get too far ahead of things that haven't been written. ++

This will be the last day of Shakedown Cruise.

== Concluding Remarks ==

The Command Staff is anticipating that as we go into the festive period things will slow down as we all get busy with family and merriment, so we're expecting that the Shakedown Cruise Mission will probably tide us over for the next month, with the hope being that we'll be moving onto our next Mission and thus officially onto our first Main Plot Arch in the new year! More on that when we get there.

In the meantime the Command Staff and I will be reviewing our Awards system (as well as giving out more). We will also attempt to have a new Command Staff Briefing in the near future should time allow it.

Until then, don't forget to keep being awesome!

LCdr. Kanaka "Kana" Shakura
Chief Counsellor and Second Officer
U.S.S. Poseidon
